The footpath to Alum Bay - before the chairlift was installed at the Needles Park to take visitors to the beach this footpath was the only means of access from the land. In the Victorian era small steam ships called at a pier to bring visitors to the Bay, now, during summer months, pleasure craft take visitors on a short voyage to the Needles.
